Founded in 1967 by a small group of pomological hobbyists, NAFEX has grown to an organization of more than 3,000 members, and is chartered as a nonprofit organization in the state of Illinois. Although the ranks of our membership include professional pomologists, nurserymen, and commercial orchardists, NAFEX members are all AMATEURS in the truest sense of the word; they are motivated by their LOVE of fine fruit.

    Founded in 1968, the California Rare Fruit Growers (CRFG) is one of the largest amateur fruit-growing organization in the world. Its membership includes nationally recognized botanical gardens and noted international horticultural researchers, as well as hobbyists, commercial growers and representatives from institutions of higher learning. The members of twenty-two chapters and individual members reside in 48 states and territories of the United States, but the membership encompasses over 35 countries worldwide. Although oriented toward the environmentally sound culture of any and all edible plants in the home landscape, CRFG is focused on species not native to nor grown commercially in any given area. Its mission is to share knowledge acquired from its activities with home growers in particular and with anyone else in the world having an interest in edible plant cultivation.

Members get together four times a year at seasonal meetings (Winter, Spring Grafting, Summer Orchard Tour, Fall Apple Tasting) to share ideas and fellowship.   • NCGR UC DAVIS aim to develop an understanding of the genetic identity, structure, and relationship of our two most important collections, Vitis (grape) and Prunus (stone fruits). This work will enable us to develop effective conservation strategies for these genera.

The USDA - ARS PGRU helps conserve and utilize genetic resources of apple, cold-hardy grape, tart cherry, and certain vegetable crops. The PGRU cooperates with other National Plant Germplasm System units, federal agencies, universities, international research programs, non-governmental organizations, and is located on the Geneva Campus of Cornell University.
